Stun Guns and Pepper Sprays in the news

Police, Late-night Ice Cream Thieves and Pepper Spray

Thursday, September 13th, 2012

Ok.  I’m thinking that perhaps someone had the late-night munchies and a total lack of respect for the property of others here.  Lack of judgement and then disregard for the law never lead to a good ending.  More after the break…

Police scoop up late night ice cream thieves at ArtCliff Diner

….

Three Island teens face felony charges following a late-night arrest for breaking and entering at the ArtCliff Diner, on Beach Road in Vineyard Haven, early Saturday morning, September 3, over the Labor Day holiday weekend.

Two officers used multiple doses of pepper spray to subdue and cuff one of the trio, who struggled vigorously with police, according to an official report of the incident……

……

The incident began at about 2 am. Detective Mark Santon was driving along Beach Road when he saw three young men walking away from the ArtCliff, behaving in a suspicious manner, according to his police report.

He turned his police cruiser around and parked next to an adjacent office building. As he walked toward the three young men, he recognized the juvenile.

One of the young men, he wrote in his report, later identified as Mr. Giliberto, “had a softball-size glob of what appeared to be melting off-white colored ice cream in his hand, with no wrapping around it. This subject repeatedly smashed the large glob of ice cream into his face. The male’s face, chest, and stomach were covered with melted ice cream.”

Questioned, the young man told Detective Santon he got the ice cream at his friend’s house, but he could not remember the friend’s name or the location of the house. “In between answers, he kept mashing the large ball of ice cream into his face,” Mr. Santon said…….

……..Detective Santon said that despite repeated requests that he stop resisting and place his hands behind his back, Mr. Giliberto fought the officers. He said all three had scrapes. Using pepper spray, the officers were able to handcuff the young man and place him in the cruiser…..   (read the rest at Police scoop up late night ice cream thieves at ArtCliff Diner – http://www.mvtimes.com/2012/09/05/police-scoop-up-late-night-ice-cream-thieves-artcliff-diner-12394/ )

While the article reads in a funny way at times, it seems more sad to me, as a reflection of current society.  Relatively tame compared to much that we hear about but still…

To be prepared as the officers were, pick up some Wildfire pepper spray today!

May the Force be with you? Darth Vader Requires Taser and Pepper Spray to be Subdued.

Wednesday, January 11th, 2012

Every once and a while you come across an article that just makes you stop and reread it to make sure that you saw that right.  The following is one such article.  A friend sent it to me and I thought it humorous enough to share with you as well.  Enjoy!

The force is weak with this one: Darth Vader tasered after he attacks Florida trooper
By Paul Thompson

A man wearing Darth Vader mask found that the force wasn’t with him when confronted by a police officer.

Michael Cole ended up being tasered with a 50,000 volt stun gun and hit with pepper spray after he became violent towards a patrol officer.
The 38-year-old, who appeared drunk, had been asked to leave a construction site in Orlando, Florida, in the early hours of the morning.  The man, who was drunk, began shouting profanities at the trooper and laid down in the road. When the officer tried to get him up, Cole began kicking him.  Cole, who was wearing a black Darth Vader mask, refused the officer’s instructions, swore and lay down in the road.  When Cole tried to punch the officer he was zapped with the Taser.  When the thickness of Cole’s jacket prevented the electric shot from having much effect the officer sprayed him with pepper spray.

While being loaded on a stretcher Cole complained of shortness of breath and was taken to hospital and later arrested after his release.

Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Sgt Kim Montes said the trooper was not injured.

Cole was arrested on felony charges of resisting arrest and battery on an officer.

Really?  Resisting arrest seems plain enough but where was that all too familiar “raise the hand and mimic a choke” motion that we’ve all seen from Darth Vader before?  Surely we would have expected more from the epitome of darkness…

Stay safe!
